Ming combines her artistic instinct with a vigorous training.
She is uniquely qualified as a designer, skilled jeweller, gemmologist and diamond appraiser.
Ming designs bespoke jewellery and themed collections. A commissioned piece may be inspired by an occasion, a rite of passage or a particular stone, but fundamental to the bespoke process is Ming's love of people as individuals. In undertaking a commission Ming explores the precious metals, gemstones and dimensions that best complement a person's style and physical traits. Also important is the symbolism of the piece and how its design may communicate meaning, no matter how discreetly.
Ming believes that the beauty of jewellery goes all the way through it, from its aesthetic allure to its construction. She combines a love of traditional techniques with a desire to push at the boundaries of technical possibility. Her jewellery is handmade with craftsmanship, precious metal and gemstones of the finest quality. Ming only purchases diamonds from legitimate sources not involved in funding conflict and that comply with United Nations resolutions.
Over the fifteen years that Ming has been working as a jewellery designer she has developed a loyal following, including a number of high-profile clients. Discretion is paramount to Ming - jewellery can be a deeply private affair - and details of her client-list are never disclosed.
Ming's most recent themed collection is Asian Princess, inspired by the rich symbolism of Eastern cultures. Past collections have included 'Water', evocative of waves, bubbles, water droplets and ripples, and 'Etruscan' which hinted at the bold but elegant shapes favoured by this ancient civilisation.
Her obsession with jewellery began in 1994 when she underwent an apprenticeship in Jaipur, Rajasthan; a hub of jewellery making for centuries. Here she worked alongside jewellers who taught her the science and art of their craftsmanship and sorted precious and semi-precious gems for meticulous dealers. She grew to know and adore stones - not only their unique beauty and physical properties, but the stories and cultural symbolism that surround them.
To complete her training, Ming took a two-year Diploma in Jewellery at the Sir John Cass Department of London Guildhall University, studied Gem Identification at the Gemmological Institute of America and gained a Diamond Diploma at the Gemmological Assocation of Great Britain. She has received awards from the British Jewellers Association and the Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths.
